3 Core Principles of BetterChoices: Activity

Over the last few weeks, we have introduced you to the 3 core principles of BetterChoices — Truth, Tracking, & Activity.  We dug in on the first core principle, TRUTH and we went hard on tracking. This week, we will wrap it all up with the final core principle of BetterChoices, Activity.

Now, you would think that everybody knows and understands what we mean by activity. Truth is, most don’t.  When we say activity, we mean getting busy……moving something!!!  We hear it all the time, “Yeah, I walk in the park with my friends or I took the kids to park.” Although that is indeed a form of activity, it’s not exactly what we mean.

When we say activity, we mean elevating your heart rate for at least 30 minutes per day. We’re talking about a heart rate of 120-140 beats per minute. This is very different from walking with the kids in the park. A walk in the park with the kids and a walk in the mall with friends are great activities, but these are what we call CASUAL Activity.  While casual activity is still activity, it’s not putting you in your optimal fat burning mode. The way you get to your optimal burning mode is to elevate that heart rate between 120-140 beats per minute every day, for at least 30 minutes a day. Look at it like this, the faster you go in your car the more gas you burn, right?  Well, it’s the same theory with your body’s metabolism.

It’s like Rick James said, “Gimmie that FUNK!” If you are working it out correctly, you’ll be sweating!  That’s a key indicator that you are in the optimal fat burning zone.  Your body begins to go through it’s cooling process of perspiring.  If you are not perspiring, your are either not working hard enough or you are dehydrated. It’s important that you hydrate properly before you get active so when it’s time, your body can do what it is designed to do.

Here’s the bottom line. NO MORE EXCUSES!  When it comes to activity, we have heard it all. “I can’t work out because I don’t want to mess up my hair,”  “I don’t have time, I have to cook dinner,” “I have to help with homework,” so on and so on! NO MORE EXCUSES!

At the end of the day, we all make time for things that we deem necessary or important in our lives. It’s like finding extra cash to buy that new outfit to go to the Will Downing Concert…when we think it’s a must have, we find a way.

Look at it like this.  Your body is a vessel that God has allowed you to use to house your soul while you are here on earth.  We are the renters and God is the landlord. Take care of it! One day you will have to give it back.

As always, thank you for time, love & support. We hope what we have shared has helped you. Be sure to share this info with family & friends.
