3 Core Principles of BetterChoices: Track

Last week, we introduced the 3 core principles of BetterChoices, truth, tracking, & activity.  We dug in into the first core principle, TRUTH.  This week, we will expand upon core principle #2, tracking.

We get more resistance on this principle than the first one.  We mean folks ABSOLUTELY HATE having to write stuff down!!!  The reason this is such a “hands off” issue is because when you write something down, it’s concrete.  It means that you are aware. You are aware of what happened… on what day….. at what time….and at what moment. How many times have you used the phrase or heard the phrase, “If it’s not in black and white, it doesn’t exist?”

We look at it like this – God gave Moses the 10 commandments. He didn’t tell Moses to remember and recite. He told Moses to WRITE them down. Moses wrote them…IN STONE! Moses made sure there would be NO DOUBT & absolutely NO CONFUSION. God’s words were written.

Funny how Moses could write God’s laws in stone but you refuse to make time or are just unwilling to write down anything, let alone your daily food/beverage consumption.

It’s simple. TRACKING is key!!! Tracking is an action that you do for yourself. Tracking keeps you accountable to your goals, setbacks, and triumphs. When you track, you immediately create a record of your habits. It is that record that provides you with the RIGHT information to make the necessary adjustments. Tracking helps to create a healthier lifestyle and weight loss you can sustain!

Truth is, the benefits of tracking will come back to serve you well, we promise! We equate tracking to a road map.  Let us ask you, “Do you know how to get to Chicago?” The typical answer is “no,” However, if you had a road map, it would make the journey a lot easier. You will have a guide that shows you the route to where you are going. If you track correctly, you will have a detailed “road map” helping you to create your healthier lifestyle, identify stumbling blocks, and show you exactly what works for  you. It’s like leaving a trail of peanut shells along the way.

Tracking also shows your growth.  When you begin, it’s important that you track your starting measurements, like your neck, chest, waist,  starting weight, & a few “before” pics.  These measurements allow you to chart your growth, or in this case, shrinkage every week, month, and year.  These tracked measurements will also serve you well when the scale stops moving. WHAT?!!! Yes…trust us…the scale will stop moving!!! This is usually around the time when most folks will crash and burn.  Why? Because when the scale doesn’t move in the direction you think it should be moving and you can no longer see the desired results of your efforts, it makes it easy for you to give up and say, “the process is not working.”

It’s important for you to understand that the waist, hips and other areas are still transforming even though the scale may be “stuck!” However, if you don’t take your measurements in the beginning and track them consistently, you won’t have that as a resource to assess if your efforts are truly working for you or against you.

At the end of the day, you can’t fix a problem if you don’t know when, where and what is causing the problem.

TRACK! No excuses.

As always, thank you for time, love & support. We hope what we have shared has helped you. Be sure to share this info with family & friends.
