3 Core Principles of BetterChoices: Truth

When we first came up with this BetterChoices concept, folks would always ask us what is BetterChoices?  BetterChoices is a mindset! It’s a mindset based on 3 core principles: TRUTH, TRACKING, & ACTIVITY.

This week we will discuss TRUTH.

Honesty is key. It’s the foundation required to make your lifestyle change a sustainable success. Once you’re honest with yourself, you are able to accept your current situation and move toward changing it.  But as long as you keep telling yourself things like: “I’m not fat, I’m just big boned”….or “I’m not fat, I’m just thick & healthy.” It gets worse…how often have you told yourself, “I’ll eat just one….it won’t hurt nothing”…..or “nah, I didn’t eat that much”…and one of our all time favorites….”I PROMISE, I’ll start tomorrow!” We all know tomorrow will always be a day away. In other words, another day = another delay!!

Truth is, tomorrow never comes.

How many of us go to the doctor and tell them half the story but expect them to heal all of the ailment? Oh yeah, I’m not going to that Dr all of my business….they don’t need to know all of that about me, I’m coming here for this and he wants to ask about that……have you ever considered one could be the cause or the result of the other?

Being truthful holds you accountable for your actions.

It was brought to our attention once that most overweight & obese people don’t have mirrors in their living spaces…Wonder why?? A mirror is a pure reflection of what is actual.  As two overweight obese individuals, we avoided looking in a full body mirror because we didn’t want to see the TRUTH. I avoided taking full body pics for the same reason. Maleka avoided taking pictures all together! Her excuse was always, “Somebody has to TAKE the picture.” Wearing a shirt tucked in…no way!  …and I was the king of not knowing who ate the leftovers. (insert angry wife here! lol!)

The take away here is simple.  Be honest with your self.  Look in the mirror and take note of what you need to work on.  Go to the DR. and get checked out…remember, the more truthful you are with them, the more you enable them to properly diagnose and treat any issues they may find.  As far as your diet….if  you ate it, own it.

As stated so eloquently by Shakespeare, “To thine own self be true,” you must be loyal to your own best interests.

Watch this episode of BetterChoicesTV as we discuss our hilarious truth, including some of our bad choices and outcomes of those choices.
